Spicy
Cocoa
Mmm, mmm good after an
afternoon on the ice rink or building a super-size snowman! The trick is
to place the marshmallows on the top quickly so they will melt into the
hot cocoa. This is a great tummy warmer!
Here are the tools and utensils you will
need:
- Medium size saucepan
- Dry and liquid measuring
cups
- Measuring spoons
- Wooden mixing spoon
- Cups or mugs
- Timer
Here are the ingredients you will need to
make 4 servings:
- 1/4 cup/125 mL Watkins
All-Natural Baking Cocoa
- 1/3 cup/80 mL white or brown
sugar
- 3-1/2 cups/875 ml water
- 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Watkins
Cinnamon

- 3 cups/750 ml milk
- 1 cup/250 ml miniature
marshmallows
- 4 cinnamon sticks (for stirring, if
desired)
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, combine
cocoa, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and hot water; mix until
smooth.
- Place saucepan on stove-top over
medium heat.
- Bring the mixture to a boil,
stirring constantly. Cook and stir for 2 minutes longer.
- Add milk and heat just until hot;
do not boil.
- Pour carefully into
cups.
- Put marshmallows on top while
the cocoa is still very hot so they will melt.
- Add one cinnamon stick to each mug to use for
stirring.
What
are cinnamon sticks? Where do they come
from?
Cinnamon is actually the bark of an evergreen
tree that grows in Asia. During the rainy season, the bark is
stripped from the trees. This does not hurt the tree and the bark
grows back again. When the stripped bark dries, it curls up into
tight sticks. These are great for stirring cocoa or for decorating,
but nearly all recipes call for ground-u' cinnamon. the sticks are
hard to grind at home, so Watkins does it for you! |
Egg in a Ham Cup A warm and cozy idea for
breakfast, lunch or even an after-school snack! This recipe makes only
one serving, but it can easily be made in larger quantities for the
whole family and friends, too; just place each in its own custard
cup.
Here are the tools and utensils you
will need:
- Custard cup (one for each
serving)
- Small skillet
- Tongs
- Measuring spoons
- Cookie baking sheet
- Timer
- Pot holders
- Table knife
- Metal mixing spoon
Here are the ingredients you will need for one
serving:
- Watkins Cooking
Spray
- 1 round slice of deli-style turkey
ham (about 4-inches/10-cm across)
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp/5 mL milk
- Watkins Seasoning
Salt
- Watkins Black Pepper
- Watkins
Paprika
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375 F/190 C.
- Lightly spray the custard cup with
cooking spray; set aside.
- Spray a small skillet with the
cooking spray and place on burner. Place ham slice in skillet and fry
over medium heat until the edges curl and the center begins to puff.
Remove from heat and lift the slice, using the tongs, into the custard
cup and press down so the slice fits into the cup.
- Break the egg into the center of
the ham slice (a little may overflow into the cup, but that's
okay.)
- Drizzle the milk over the egg.
(Drizzle means to pour slowly in a thin stream.)
- Sprinkle egg to taste with
seasoning salt, pepper and paprika.
- Place the custard cup on a small cookie sheet; place in oven.
(You may need your grown-up assistant to help you with this
step.)
- Bake, uncovered, for 15 to 20 minutes or until the egg is set, and
no longer runny. With potholders, remove the cookie sheet from the
oven. (Again, you may need your grown-up assistant to help with
this step.)
- Loosen egg from cup with the table knife and lift onto serving
plate with a spoon. If you would rather, you can ear it right out of
the cup.
