Watkins Petro Carbo Salve

Watkins Petro Carbo Salve was introduced by J. R. Watkins in 1888. The famous "black salve" contained carbolic acid (used to sterilize medical instruments) and essential oils in a petrolatum base. Now that the petrolatum is more refined, there is no black colour, but the effectiveness and distinctive, nostalgic aroma are just as they always were.

Over the years Watkins Petro Carbo Salve has been known by many "popular" names including: black salve, antiseptic salve, drawing salve, brown salve, healing salve, black drawing salve, draw out salve, boil drawing salve, carbolic salve, black ointment, udder balm, bag balm, teat salve and cow salve -- just to mention a few!
