Simply Sweet Cinnamon Strawberry Shortcake
  • Watkins Recipe - Cinnamon Strawberry Shortcake2 cups/450 mL all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup/60 mL sugar
  • 1 tbsp/15 mL Watkins Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Watkins Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Watkins Orange Peel
  • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL salt
  • 1/4 cup/60 mL butter
  • 1/4 tsp/1.2 mL Watkins Original Double Strength Vanilla Extract
  • 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 cups/310 - 375 mL heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup/60 mL walnuts, chopped
Preheat oven to 400F/200C. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, orange peel, salt and butter. Stir in vanilla, cream and walnuts. Drop on baking sheet using a 1/4 cup/60 mL measuring cup. Brush with butter and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, if desired. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until brown. Cool shortcakes and cover with strawberries and whipped cream.
Sweetened Strawberries
  • 4 - 6 cups/1 to 1.5 quarts strawberries 1/4 cup/60 mL sugar
    Hull and quarter strawberries, toss in a medium bowl with sugar, let stand at least 20 minutes.
  • Makes 12 biscuits.

    Fruit Crepe with Orange Syrup
    Crepes
    • Watkins Recipe - Fruit Crepes with Orange Syrup1 cup/250 mL flour
    • 3 large eggs
    • 2 tbsp/30 mL melted butter
    • 1 cup/250 mL whole milk
    • Pinch of salt
    • Extra butter
    In a large bowl whisk all ingredients together until smooth. Let rest covered at room temperature for 30 minutes. In 10-inch/25 cm skillet melt butter over medium-high heat. Swirl a 1/4 cup/60 mL batter in skillet, cook 2-3 minutes per side.

    Orange Syrup
    • 1/2 cup/125 mL honey
    • 1 tbsp/15 mL butter
    • 1 tsp/5 mL Watkins Original Double Strength Vanilla Extract
    • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Watkins Orange Peel
    • 1/4 tsp/1.2 mL Watkins Orange Extract
    In a 1-quart saucepan cook butter and honey over low heat until butter is melted. Stir in remaining ingredients.

    Pudding
    • 1/2 cup/125 mL Watkins Vanilla Dessert Mix
    • 3 cups/750 mL whole milk
    • 1 egg yolk
    • 1 tbsp/15 mL butter
    • 1 tsp/5 mL Watkins Original Double Strength Vanilla Extract
    In 2-quart sauce pan whisk together cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture begins to boil. Continue cooking until thickened. Spread crepes with pudding, fold into quarters. Serve with syrup and top with seasonal fruit.

    Spiced Shrimp
    • Watkins Recipe - Spiced Shrimp3 quarts/liters of water
    • 1/2 cup/125 mL vinegar
    • 1 lemon, halved
    • 1 jumbo sweet yellow onion (such as Vidalia), halved
    • 1/4 cup/60 mL Watkins Pickling Spice
    • 1 tbsp/15 mL Watkins Sea Salt
    • 2 lbs/900 g tiger shrimp, with shells on
    Bring water, vinegar, lemon, onion, spice and salt to a boil in a large pot. Boil 10 minutes, then add shrimp. Boil shrimp 3 to 5 minutes or until shells are pink and shrimp is done. Serve hot or chilled as an appetizer. Serve with cocktail sauce or your favourite Watkins Hot Pepper Sauce.

    Horseradish Cocktail Sauce
    • 2 cups/500 mL ketchup
    • 3 tbsp/45 mL Watkins Tomato & Horseradish Snack & Dip Seasoning
    Mix and serve.

    Turkey on the Grill
    • Turkey!10- to 12-pound/4.5- to 5.5-kg turkey
    • 1/4 cup/60 mL Watkins Meat Magic
    • 1 tbsp/15 mL Watkins Poultry Seasoning
    • Watkins Grapeseed Oil for basting Original Grapeseed Oil
    Prepare an outdoor grill for indirect medium-high heat by placing 25 or so coals in separate piles on each side of a kettle-style grill. Light each pile and allow coals to become ash-covered before cooking.

    Meanwhile, rinse turkey thoroughly with cold water; pat dry. Turn wings back to hold neck skin in place. Return legs to tucked position and place turkey, breast side up, on a metal grate inside a large roasting pan; rub inside and out with Meat Magic and Poultry Seasoning. Brush turkey with oil. Arrange pan on the prepared grill. Grill 2 to 3 hours, to an internal thigh temperature of 180°F/85ºC. Brush turkey with additional oil as needed while grilling. When more coals are needed, add 7 at a time to each pile (usually about once per hour). Remove turkey from grill and let stand 15 minutes before carving.

    Makes 12 servings.

    Watkins Recipe - Crab DipCrab Dip
    • 8 oz/227 g cream cheese
    • 1/4 cup/60 mL sour cream
    • 4 tbsp/60 mL Watkins Crab Snack & Dip Seasoning
    • 1/4 cup/60 mL crabmeat or imitation crab
    Whip cream cheese until softened. Fold in sour cream, seasoning and crab. Let stand for 30 to 60 minutes to allow flavors to develop. Serve on melba toast or assorted crackers.
