Everyone loves to eat, but not everyone knows how to cook. 
We believe that if you know the basics of cooking and if you know your way around the kitchen, you'll not only become a great cook, but you'll love it, too!  We hope this section is one that you and the young "chefs" in your life find fun and easy to use every month!



Chocolate Chip Cookies
This crisp-yet-chewy cookie is great as a lunch box treat or an afternoon snack served with cold milk.


Ingredients you will need to make about 30 cookies:
  • 1 cup/250 mL all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp/1.2 mL salt
  • 2-1/2 tbsp/40 mL butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/2 cup/125 mL sugar
  • 1/4 cup/60 mL brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp/5 mL Watkins Vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp/1.2 mL Watkins Butter Extract
  • 1/2 cup/125 mL semisweet chocolate chips
  • Watkins Cooking Spray
Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF/190ºC and spray a cookie sheet(s) with Watkins Cooking Spray; set aside.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda and salt in medium bowl; set aside. 
  3. Place melted butter in large bowl; stir in sugars and mix well. 
  4. Add egg and extracts; mix well.
  5. Add flour mixture and chocolate chips; mix until just combined.
  6. Drop batter by rounded tablespoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets.
  7. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes or until golden.
  8. Using oven mitts, very carefully remove cookies from the cookie sheet to a wire rack to cool.
Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Sweetened with honey, these cookies are not only healthful, but also a snap to make.


Ingredients you will need to about 20 cookies:
  • 1/4 cup/60 mL low-fat plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup/60 mL Watkins Original Grapeseed Oil
  • 1/2 cup/125 mL honey
  • 1 tsp/5 mL Watkins Vanilla
  • 1 cup/250 mL rolled oats
  • 1 cup/250 mL all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp/5 mL Watkins Baking Powder
  • 2-1/2 tsp/12.5 mL Watkins Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup/125 mL raisins
  • 1/4 cup/60 mL chopped walnuts
  • Watkins Cooking Spray
Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF/180ºC.
  2. Stir together yogurt, oil, honey, and vanilla in large bowl.
  3. Mix in oats.
  4. Add flour, baking powder, and cinnamon; mix well.
  5. Stir in raisins and walnuts.
  6. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto cookie sheet sprayed with no-stick cooking spray.
  7. Bake for 14 to 17 minutes or until lightly browned.
  8. Using oven mitts, very carefully remove the cookies from the cookie sheet to a wire rack to cool.
  9. Store in air-tight containers.
