13 Quick and Easy Desserts and Snacks to
Please Your Whole Family!
You can impress everyone with a different
delicious dessert every night! Here are some quick and easy
ideas that would be good for after school snack - and even a quick breakfast in some cases!
Almost Instant Cooked
Pudding (a microwave recipe)
What you will
need to make 4 servings: - 1/2 cup/125 mL Watkins Dessert
Mix (Banana, Butterscotch, Chocolate
or Vanilla)
- 1/3 cup/80 mL nonfat dry
milk powder
- 1/4 cup/60 mL sugar (or equivalent sweetener of your
choice)
- 1/2 cup/125 mL room temperature or cold water
- 2 cups/500
mL boiling water
- 4 to 5 ice cubes (equal to
1/2 cup/125 mL water)
- 1/2 tsp/2.5 mL Watkins Vanilla
Extract
Combine dessert mix, milk powder, sugar, and
cold water in a 2-quart/litre microwave-safe container; mix well.
Stir in boiling water. Microwave on HIGH, uncovered, for 2
minutes, until thickened. Stir; Microwave 1 minute longer, if
necessary. Remove from the microwave; stir in ice cubes until
melted. Stir in vanilla extract and divide pudding into 4
dessert dishes; refrigerate until firm. Pudding will be eating
temperature after stirring in ice cubes and will thicken in about 15
to 20 minutes in the refrigerator.
Apple Pie Yogurt ... Stir
frozen apple juice concentrate and Watkins Cinnamon
(to taste) into plain yogurt.
Baked Apples ... You will need
one apple per person. Core apple without cutting through to the
bottom. Stuff the center with raisins and nuts tossed with
Watkins Cinnamon. Drizzle frozen apple juice
concentrate over stuffing and bake in a regular oven at 350 F/180 C
for about 20 minutes or in a microwave oven on Medium for about 5
minutes until tender.
Banana Shake ... Whiz milk and a
banana, plus a bit of Watkins Vanilla Extract in the
blender. For a flavour variation, add a spoon of Watkins
Baking Cocoa.
Banana
Spread ... Mash a ripe banana and spread on a
slice of toast; sprinkle with Watkins Cinnamon.
This is better than jam and has no added
sugar!
Cantaloupe Boats
... Cut a large cantaloupe into quarters and
remove the seeds. Fill the cavity with unsweetened fruits such
as strawberries, raspberries, grapes, blueberries, etc. Top with
plain yogurt mixed with frozen orange or pineapple juice concentrate
and a dash of Watkins Allspice
or Ginger. Add a sprinkling of
nut-like cereal or granola nuggets.
Fruit Crepes ... Heat chopped
fresh fruit with Watkins Cinnamon, Allspice or
Ginger and some frozen fruit juice concentrate until
softened. Roll a few spoons of fruit into a warmed flour
tortilla; sprinkle with powdered sugar and
serve.
Grasshopper Fizz
... In a tall glass, combine one part skim
milk, one part mineral water or club soda, and Watkins
Peppermint Extract (to taste). Stir; add crushed
ice. Serve at once.
Macaroon Pie ... Add 1/2 tsp/2.5
mL Watkins Almond Extract to prepared Watkins
Coconut Pie Filling. Put in a baked pie shell, and top
with crushed macaroon cookies.
Pudding Parfaits ... Layer
chilled Almost Instant Pudding (above) with fresh
fruit pieces. Top with plain yogurt flavoured with
Watkins Vanilla. Sprinkle lightly with chopped
nuts.
Spiced Fruit Compote
... Flavour a bowl of cut up fruits with
frozen pineapple juice concentrate and Watkins
Cinnamon.
Strawberry
Fizz ... Whiz a dozen frozen (unsweetened)
strawberries, a banana, frozen apple juice concentrate, frozen orange
juice concentrate, a little Watkins Ginger, a drop of
Watkins Peppermint Extract (if desired) and 12
ounces/375 mL mineral water in the blender. (Serves
3)
Yogurt Sundae
... Stir a little powdered sugar and
Watkins Vanilla Extract into plain yogurt. Top
with crushed strawberries or other fruit. Sprinkle with
granola.
