What is the difference between kitchen scissors and regular scissors?
Kitchen scissors are used for cutting various food items such as green onions, bread dough or pizza. These scissors should only be used for food items and nothing else. Be sure to wash them well each time you use them! |
Alphabet Chili
Make this chili when you have some free time and freeze it until needed. Microwave before schools and place in an insulated vacuum bottle for delicious hot lunch on a cold winter day!
Ingredients you will need to make 8 servings:
1 pound/454 g ground beef
- 2 tbsp/30 ml Watkins Onion Flakes
- 3-1/2 cups/875 ml water
- 1 can (15 oz/498 ml) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz/498 ml) stewed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp/30 ml Watkins Chili Seasoning
- 2 tsp/10 ml Watkins Beef Soup Base
- 2 cups/500 ml frozen mixed vegetables
- 1 cup/250 ml dried alphabet-shaped pasta or pasta "O's"
- Shredded or Parmesan cheese, if desired
Instructions:
- In a Dutch oven or large kettle, combine the ground beef and onion flakes.
- Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until beef is browned; remove from heat and set kettle on a hot pad.
- Place a colander in a large bowl. Spoon in the browned beef and let stand until the grease drains off. Return the drained been to the kettle. (When the grease has hardened, you can either put it into the 'green' trash or put it outside for the birds to eat as suet.)
- Add water, tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, chili seasoning and beef soup base to the ground beef. Continue cooking until the chili just comes to a boil, stirring occasionally.
- Add the vegetables and pasta. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the chili comes to a full boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low.
- Continue cooking for 20 to 30 minutes; stirring often. With pot holders, remove the kettle from the heat. Ladle the chili into bowls and sprinkle with cheese if desired. Refrigerate any leftovers.
... or ladle chili into individual serving size plastic containers and freeze for lunches.
Vacuum Bottle Tip!
Keep hot foods like soup or chili in a vacuum bottle (Thermos). To preheat, fill it with very hot water and let stand for 5 minutes. Empty completely, then fill with your hot food. |
