Watkins Incorporated has sent $20,000 of its Insect Repellent Lotion, as well as numerous personal care items to help aid the people affected by Hurricane Katrina. The products are being distributed directly to the victims by volunteers of Catholic Charities. “We are grateful for the opportunity to make a contribution,” said Mark Jacobs, Watkins President. “We believe our Insect Repellent can help make a lot of people a little more comfortable during this difficult time. We are also grateful to Catholic Charities and the American Red Cross for making sure our donations get to the people who need them.” Jacobs added. Watkins has also made a financial donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Response Fund to help with efforts to support those left homeless by the storm. Watkins and its employees have a long history of working with the Red Cross. Watkins regularly hosts the North Central Regions Bloodmobile, providing release time for its employees along with a healthy “canteen” for those who donate. Watkins employees quickly filled all 40 appointments for the September 21 Bloodmobile stop at Watkins, with 24 additional employees “on call” in case appointments opened up. |
Cinnamon shown to lower blood sugar, fats and cholesterol Recent studies have shown that just 1/4
tsp of cinnamon every day may help to lower blood sugar, fats and
cholesterol by up to 30 percent! Researchers suggest it may also stave off
the onset of type 2 diabetes in those at risk. |
Watkins has proudly become a major sponsor of American Public Media’s A Prairie Home Companion. For the next year, Garrison Keillor will narrate the above promo message at the beginning or ending of every radio broadcast, as well as once during the middle of each show. “The show is an ideal fit for our brand of many ‘comfort products,’” said Watkins President Mark Jacobs . A Prairie Home Companion reaches approximately 4 million listeners through more than 650 radio stations throughout North America. “This is an exciting opportunity in that it elevates our brand through association with this quality show." A Prairie Home Companion, now in its 30th year of production, is broadcast live every Saturday night from 5 - 7 p.m. CT. The show features a unique mix of comedy sketches, music, and Garrison Keillor’s signature monologue, “The News from Lake Wobegon.” Upcoming musical guests include the Grammy winning Cajun group BeauSoleil, the legendary Tannahil Weavers from Scotland, and Canadian singer/songwriters The Wailin’ Jennys. Recent shows have featured singer/songwriter Gillian Welch, Professor Peter Schickele, mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, and the phenomenal blues and folk singer Odetta. |
