Some tips are timeless
- as you'll see by these from Watkins 1941 Household Hints book!

Perfect Eggs:
To ensure a perfectly centered yoke, store your eggs point-side down in the container.  Your hard cooked, deviled and sliced eggs will be picture-perfect every time!

Pasta or Rice:  To keep pasta or rice from boiling over, grease the inside of the pot three or four inches around the top and the mixture will not boil over!

Watkins Household Hints - 1941Marshmallows and Wieners - to Roast:  A wire corn popper is excellent for roasting wieners or marshmallows over an open fire.  You can roast more at a time and the meat juice is not lost because of punctured skin.

Salmon - to Prevent Odour in Cooking:  Squeeze lemon juice on both sides of a salmon steak.  Chill one to two hours before cooking.

Eggs - Hard Cooked:  To avoid the shell sticking to freshly cooked eggs, crack the shell lightly with a spoon immediately after cooking.  For a Picnic:  Place cooked eggs in cold water.   Hard cooked eggs darken if they stand.  Drain, then place in the refrigerator when cold, but do not remove shell until ready to use.

Peaches - to Remove Skin:  Place the peach on a spoon and lower into boiling water for a few seconds.  The skin may be easily removed without affecting the flavour of the peach.

Peas - to Keep Green:  Cook peas, beans or any other green vegetable in an open pan or kettle.  Do not cover.  Never use soda as it destroys the important vitamins and the flavour.

Green Peppers - Stuffed:  To prevent from turning brown, brush the outside of the pepper well with olive oil before placing in the oven.

Pineapple - to Slice:  Use a different knife for slicing than the one used for paring.  The rind contains an acid that may cause sore lips.
Questions!ColeslawCole Slaw? ... Who is Cole?!

Actually, there is no Cole ... and it doesn't even mean cold!  The Latin word for cabbage is coli and the Dutch word for salad is sla.  Coleslaw is actually an interpretation of the Dutch word "koolsla" with means cabbage salad!
