There was a time when the lady of the house looked for the "Good Housekeeping Seal" when shopping. It not only meant that the product in question was likely to be better than similar products, it also carried a limited warranty against defects in the product. People may still look for that seal, after all it turned 100 years old in 2009!
Similar seals have since become popular, the Underwriter's Laboratory, the Canadian Standards Association, the Heart and Stroke's Health Check and many more. Most notable for us, of course, is the Watkins 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, which has been in place since 1868.
All of these certifications
help protect the consumer, facilitate trade among nations, establish
standards for manufacturers and generate a framework to help things run smoothly among the many
participants in what is generally called the "Market Place". Due to
many factors, most important of which is you the consumer, there is
a growing demand to know what exactly is being put on or in your
food. As this interest grows, we keep looking further and further up
the supply chain. You now want to know under what conditions your
food was grown, how it was harvested, what it was fed, how it was
preserved and what contribution it makes to your nutrition.
This opens the
door for every astute marketer to take advantage and make any and
every possible claim, which could lead you, the consumer, to base
your choices on less that accurate information. To address this situation
two very important certifications have been introduced, the
"Organic" and the "Natural Products Association" labeling; both of
which have been actively pursued by Watkins to ensure that we, the
Independent Watkins Associates, can offer you products that are the
best possible quality for your homes. With this certification have
come a few problems, most notable are the fact that your demand for
these products has exceeded the anticipated demand, creating some of
out of stock situations which have been largely corrected. The other
challenge is securing naturally certified ingredients for our
products. This challenge is taking a little longer to overcome,
because it is beyond our control.
We want to thank you for, first of all,
responding with such great enthusiasm for these new products and,
secondly, for being so understanding as we work through the kinks.
We can only hope that the quality of our service to you meets the
quality of the products that we bring you.
